COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) – A new app designed to make reporting problems in the community easier, has surfaced in Columbus.
City of Columbus Public Information Officer Joe Dillon, said the SeeClickFix app is a “fancy, new, electronic way” for citizens to contact city departments for service.
A user can request service for abandoned cars, overgrown trees, damaged stop signs and etc.
The app is free and can be downloaded on a computer or smartphone. If downloaded on a smartphone, Dillon says the app has access to the camera and GPS for a more efficient experience.
The app monitors all requests then sends the reports to the respective city department. Once the department receives the report, workers complete the service.
Dillon said the app costs the city $8,568 annually.
He also said citizens can only use the SeeClickFix app for quality of life requests, not for criminal reports.
Although the app is quick and easy to use, Dillon said the action center will still be open to take calls.
City leaders will hold a open house in December, so people can learn more about the SeeClickFix app.
Dillon said the next phase of the project is the Vacation Home Watch. This mode will allow users to request police to monitor their home while they’re away. He said this feature will be available by Thanksgiving.
Phase three of the project is Close Patrol. This allows anyone to requests someone to watch a particular area.
